Workplace defibrillator: equip your premises, we handle installation and follow-up
A workplace defibrillator must be easy to use, placed where your teams walk past, registered and maintained. From offices to warehouses, we supply the AED, install it, look after it over time and train the employees who will be first on the scene.
- One contact for all your sites
- Installation, signage and GéoDAE
- Maintenance and first-aider training
Why install a defibrillator in the workplace?
Cardiac arrest picks neither the day nor the place: meeting room, loading bay, open-plan office, car park. At work there is almost always someone nearby. The question is whether that person will find a defibrillator in time, and dare to use it.
Around 50,000 sudden cardiac arrests occur in France every year, and each minute without defibrillation costs about 10% chance of survival. A device that is easy to spot, accessible, maintained and known to your colleagues protects employees as well as visitors, customers and contractors.
For an HSE or QHSE manager, it is also equipment to build into the organisation: risk assessment, instructions, logbook, designated first-aiders. That is the part we set up with you.
Is a defibrillator mandatory for companies in France?
There is no general obligation for every company: it all depends on whether your premises receive the public. Here is the answer for your situation.
| Your situation | Defibrillator required? |
|---|---|
| Premises open to the public classified ERP categories 1 to 4 (department store, hotel, conference centre…) | Yes. Required since 2020 for categories 1 to 3 and since 2021 for category 4. |
| Category 5 ERP: shop, branch, showroom receiving customers | Only for the activities listed in article R. 157-1 of the Building and Housing Code (indoor sport, healthcare, care for elderly or disabled people, dance venues, gaming rooms, stations…), open for more than three months and above an attendance threshold set by ministerial order. |
| Offices, workshops or warehouses closed to the public | No AED obligation. The Labour Code requires first-aid equipment suited to the risks (articles R. 4224-14 to R. 4224-16): the risk assessment may lead you to equip voluntarily. |
| Several ERP on one site: business park, office centre | One defibrillator may be shared if it remains accessible to all within a time compatible with an emergency (article R. 157-3 of the same code). |
Once a device is installed, mandatory or not, it must be signposted, maintained by its owner and, if it is in an ERP, registered in the national GéoDAE database.
Everything about employer obligationsWhich AED for your company?
The right device is one any employee can use, placed in the right spot, whose upkeep nobody will forget. Our criteria:
Usable by a non-specialist
The Mindray C1A in our packs is fully automatic: after analysing the rhythm, it delivers the shock without anyone pressing a button, and guides the user by voice.
Suited to the site layout
Offices, workshop, warehouse, large site with outdoor access: an indoor cabinet for most premises, a heated, alarmed cabinet when the device must stay reachable outside.
A consistent fleet
Across several sites, one model makes everything simpler: same pads, same battery, same instructions, a single replacement schedule.
A predictable cost
Purchase with a maintenance contract, or all-inclusive rental: you choose between capital expenditure and operating budget, with no surprises on consumables.

Where to install a defibrillator at work?
In a busy passageway, visible from reception or a main corridor, reachable without key or code during working hours. Good practice: being able to bring the device back in under 5 minutes round trip from any workstation.
Traffic flows, working hours and site size decide how many devices you need. A multi-storey building, a long warehouse, night shifts or a car park used in the evening all change the answer.
- Near reception, a lift or an exit, never in a locked office
- Standard signage and directions from work areas
- One device per building or floor on large sites
- Outdoor cabinet if teams work outside opening hours

Our packs for businesses
The Mindray C1A pack to equip a site, the turnkey pack with installation and training, an outdoor cabinet for outside access, and the inspection logbook to keep up to date.
What we set up, depending on your site
Head office and offices
A device near reception or the lift on key floors, a training session for reception, HR and workplace first-aiders, and the location included in the staff welcome booklet.
Warehouse and logistics
Long aisles, loading bays, shift work: we measure access time from the far end of the building, and often plan a second device by the bays.
Industrial site
Workshops, restricted areas, lone workers: the device goes outside hazardous zones, on walkways, with designated first-aiders in each team.
Multi-site network
Branches, shops or depots across the country: the same model everywhere, a single maintenance schedule, and our local centres to work close to each site.
The French rules to know
The obligation to equip certain establishments open to the public (ERP) comes from law no. 2018-527 of 28 June 2018 and decree no. 2018-1186 of 19 December 2018: categories 1 to 3 since 1 January 2020, category 4 since 1 January 2021, some category 5 ERP since 1 January 2022. Decree no. 2025-1167 of 5 December 2025 rewrote the category 5 list in article R. 157-1 of the Building and Housing Code: it now only covers establishments open for more than three months and receiving at least a number of people set by ministerial order.
A site reserved for employees is not an ERP. The employer remains bound by a general safety obligation (article L. 4121-1 of the Labour Code) and must provide first-aid equipment suited to the risks (articles R. 4224-14 to R. 4224-16): an AED is part of it when the risk assessment justifies it.
Once installed, the device is signposted according to the order of 29 October 2019, registered in GéoDAE if it is in an ERP, and maintained by its owner under article R. 5212-25 of the Public Health Code and the order of 3 March 2003.
Frequently asked questions
Is a defibrillator mandatory in a company?
Not for all of them. It is if your premises are an ERP in categories 1 to 4, or a category 5 ERP whose activity appears in the list of article R. 157-1 of the French Building and Housing Code. Offices or a warehouse closed to the public have no AED obligation, but the risk assessment may justify installing one.
How many defibrillators does a company need?
Enough for everyone to stay within 5 minutes round trip of a device. We measure the real access time from the furthest points, floor by floor and building by building: a long warehouse or a multi-building site often needs several.
Where should a defibrillator be installed at work?
In a busy, visible spot, reachable without key or code during working hours: near reception, a lift or a central corridor, with standard signage. We confirm the location with you during installation.
How much does a workplace defibrillator cost?
The Mindray C1A pack (automatic device, cabinet, signage, kit) is shown on this page with its catalogue price. Add €99 excl. VAT for installation, annual maintenance from €79 excl. VAT and replacement pads and battery: the table above details the five-year cost.
Is it better to buy or rent a defibrillator for a company?
Buying costs less over five years if you handle the follow-up. Rental, from €48 excl. VAT per month with a 6-month minimum, includes maintenance and consumables with no upfront investment: it suits companies that prefer a predictable operating budget.
Is AED training mandatory for employees?
No, not to use a defibrillator: anyone may use one under French law (article R. 6311-15 of the Public Health Code), and the device guides by voice. Training a few designated staff speeds up the response, though. Our on-site sessions take 1 to 12 people for 30 minutes to 2 hours, at €490 excl. VAT per group or €369 excl. VAT with the purchase of the device.
Can an employee use the defibrillator without being a first-aider?
Yes. French law allows anyone, even a non-doctor, to use an AED, and law no. 2020-840 of 3 July 2020 protects citizens who come to someone’s aid. The device analyses the heart rhythm and only delivers a shock if needed.
What is the employer’s responsibility?
The employer answers for employees’ safety under the general safety obligation and, if it operates an ERP subject to the rule, for the presence, signage, GéoDAE registration and maintenance of the device. Our article on employer obligations covers these points.
Can a defibrillator be shared between several companies?
Yes, between several ERP on the same site, such as a business centre or business park, if it remains accessible to all within a time compatible with an emergency (article R. 157-3 of the Building and Housing Code). A written agreement states who pays, who checks and who registers the device.
Who handles follow-up and consumable replacement?
The company, as owner of the device. With our maintenance contract, we check the device, monitor the expiry dates of pads and battery, and give you an intervention report. With rental, maintenance and consumables are included.
